CBC/Radio-Canada has opened applications to select Canada’s first performer for the Eurovision Song Contest, which the country is set to enter in 2027.

Applicants must be at least 18, be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, be able to travel internationally and pass standard background checks. Applications close Sept. 9 at 11:59 p.m. PT.

The broadcaster says it is looking for an established performer with experience captivating large live audiences. Canada’s entry must include both English and French, with the selected artist to be consulted about their comfort with the country’s official languages before the final song is written.

Performances are limited to three minutes and may include a lead vocalist plus no more than five other people on stage. Vocals must be live; lip-syncing and Auto-Tune are not allowed, and backing tracks or pre-recorded material cannot replace or unduly assist the lead singer.

CBC/Radio-Canada will shortlist applicants and announce finalists in the fall. Canadians will vote online, with the public vote combined with an independent music jury’s assessment to choose the representative for the contest in Burgas, Bulgaria, in May 2027.
