The BC NDP has named candidates in Richmond-Steveston and Richmond-Queensborough
Bruce Kong will run in Steveston and Dhar Grewal in Queensborough. Former B.C. Conservative MLA Hon Chan says he will not seek re-election in Richmond Centre, where the party has since named Sacha Peter.

The BC NDP has completed its candidate slate in the Richmond-Steveston and Richmond-Queensborough ridings. Elections BC lists Bruce Kong as the party’s candidate in Steveston and Dhar Grewal in Queensborough. Grewal will face incumbent B.C. Conservative MLA Steve Kooner, while Kong will face Gordon Zhang in Steveston.
Former B.C. Conservative MLA Hon Chan, who has sat as an independent MLA since being charged with assault in March, has announced he will not seek office in Richmond Centre. Last week, Chan told the Richmond News he was considering running. In a social media statement, he said he had considered running to defeat the NDP; at that time, the only other candidate was NDP candidate Henry Yao. The B.C. Conservatives have since named Sacha Peter as their Richmond Centre candidate.
“To (defeat the NDP), we must unite the centre and the right,” Chan said. “With that in mind, I have decided to step aside and will not be seeking re-election this term.” The provincial election is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, one week after the municipal election.
