The David Foster Foundation marked its 40th anniversary at a Victoria gala Friday attended by Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and music-industry guests. The event centred on families whose children have needed life-saving organ transplants.

Founded by Victoria-born producer David Foster, the foundation helps Canadian families manage costs tied to a child’s transplant, including housing, bills, food, travel, accommodation and meals while away from home for treatment.

Heather Lazeski said the organization had supported her family through five years in which her child, James, received two heart transplants. She said the assistance helped relieve pressure during long hospital stays and uncertainty.

Chief executive Michael Ravenhill urged Canadians to register as organ donors and discuss their wishes with their families. Supporters including Jim Treliving, Chad Kroeger and Josh Groban described the significance of seeing children recover after transplants, while CeeLo Green was among the anniversary performers.
