Incumbent BC NDP MLA Jennifer Blatherwick is being challenged by Conservative Party candidate Matt Liang and B.C. Green Party candidate Nicola Spurling. Blatherwick, a former school district trustee, ran in 2024 backing the NDP’s plans to build 300,000 new homes over the next decade and hire 45,000 health-care workers over the next five years.

Liang previously worked as a deputy sheriff and a child-care counsellor. He has called for support for community safety and has also worked as a health and safety facilitator for the BC General Employees’ Union. Spurling, a community activist, previously ran on a platform that included greater government transparency, ending oil and gas subsidies, and formally recognizing housing as a human right.

NDP candidate Selina Robinson won the riding in 2017 and 2020, taking more than half the vote both times. Blatherwick won in 2024 with approximately 51 per cent of the vote.

The riding’s western boundary follows Blue Mountain Street, Brunette Avenue and Braid Street. It extends south to the Fraser River, then roughly follows the Coquitlam River north to Westwood Street along its eastern edge. The northeast point begins at Guildford Way and Johnson Street. From east to west, the boundary dips south around Port Moody.
