Candidates may now register for Surrey’s fall civic-election ballot. The nomination period began Tuesday, Sept. 1, and ends at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11. Candidates must be Canadian citizens and at least 18 years old on general voting day, among other requirements listed at surrey.ca.

Municipal elections across B.C. are set for Saturday, Oct. 17. Surrey voters will elect one mayor, eight city councillors and six school trustees for District No. 36. Four-year election terms were introduced in 2014.

Surrey’s voter list is created using Elections BC’s Provincial Voters List. People whose names are on that list will receive voter cards at their registered address in late September or early October. The voter list can be searched at surrey.ca; advance registration closed Aug. 25.

The Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade has also scheduled forums. White Rock council and mayoral forums are Sept. 21 and 22 at White Rock Community Centre. Surrey council and mayoral forums are Oct. 6 and 7 at Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel. Spectators can register at swrbot.com/events.
