Surrey council candidate Chandan Chahal prioritizes support for extortion victims
The 34-year-old Fleetwood resident and entrepreneur runs two small businesses and mentors Surrey youth through Bhangra. His three priorities include contacting and supporting extortion victims within 48 hours.

Chandan Chahal, 34, is a Fleetwood resident, entrepreneur and franchise owner. He holds a law enforcement credential from the Justice Institute and mentors youth through Bhangra. His top three priorities are to contact and support extortion victims within 48 hours, back small businesses with grants and less red tape, and give youth places to go and mentors they can trust.
On support for extortion victims, Chahal said he owns two small businesses and has volunteered with Surrey Crime Prevention. He said business owners in Fleetwood and Newton are receiving calls demanding payment under threat. He added that City Hall spent the year fighting over policing while the calls continued.
Under Imagine Surrey, Chahal said, every victim would be contacted, given a safety plan and assigned a named liaison within 48 hours. The plan would be backed by a police-led anti-extortion command. “Nobody should face this alone,” he said.
Chahal said he is 34, runs two businesses and has spent two decades mentoring Surrey youth through Bhangra. He said he knows the city from the ground up. Voters can learn more at imaginesurrey.ca or by emailing chandan@imaginesurrey.ca.
