Surrey high school teacher disciplined for showing R-rated horror films to class
A Surrey teacher must complete a professional-boundaries course by April 5, 2027, under an order from B.C.’s Commissioner for Teacher Regulation. The order follows several incidents during the 2022-23 school year, including showing R-rated films to Grade 9 students.

A Surrey high school teacher has until April 5, 2027, to successfully complete a Reinforcing Respectful Professional Boundaries course ordered by the British Columbia Commissioner for Teacher Regulation. Commissioner Donnaree Nygard signed the order on Sept. 29.
A consent resolution agreement published Oct. 13 says Raymond Alejandro Rojas Peralta was teaching Grades 9 to 12 during the 2022-23 school year. It says he showed a Grade 9 student a meme involving a racial stereotype and showed his Grade 9 class the R-rated films “Scream” and “The Conjuring.” He also sprayed students in a hallway with a water gun brought to school by a student, tried to discuss a school district investigation with a Grade 9 student in a school hallway, and made an “inappropriate comment” about a student’s departure.
Rojas Peralta was suspended for one day without pay and completed the Justice Institute of British Columbia course Creating a Positive Learning Environment. The new order requires him to successfully complete the professional-boundaries course by the stated deadline.
