Richmond to mark National Seniors Day with free and low-cost activities on Oct. 1
Richmond will offer activities for older adults on Oct. 1 and launch its annual Positive Aging Campaign featuring five local seniors.

The City of Richmond and its Community Associations and Societies are inviting residents to mark National Seniors Day on Thursday, Oct. 1. Free and low-cost programs across the city will offer older adults opportunities for social connection, physical activity, creative expression and well-being.
Highlights include an intergenerational art workshop at Hamilton Community Centre, a watercolour workshop at South Arm Community Centre, Swim, Splash and Relax at Minoru Centre for Active Living, a healthy aging and seniors advocacy seminar at Thompson Community Centre, and a walk at Richmond Nature Park. Most activities require advance registration because space is limited. Full schedules and registration information are available at richmond.ca/PositiveAging, while printed flyers are available at Richmond Parks, Recreation and Culture facilities.
The City will also launch its annual Positive Aging Campaign, featuring five Richmond seniors whose stories highlight community involvement. The campaign will be displayed online and at community centres, the Seniors Centre at Minoru Centre for Active Living and City Hall from Oct. 1 to Oct. 7.
National Seniors Day is observed annually across Canada on Oct. 1, which is also the United Nations International Day of Older Persons. Richmond said the activities reflect its ongoing work to support older adults and active aging. The city joined the World Health Organization’s Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities in 2026 and was formally recognized as an Age-Friendly BC Community by the Province of British Columbia in 2015. Seasonal 55+ Program Guides are available at richmond.ca/seniors and at City facilities.
