B.C. attorney general condemns reported threats and raw bacon at Surrey mosque
The Fleetwood Islamic Centre says threatening graffiti and raw bacon were found at its facility; RCMP are investigating a reported hate crime.

B.C. Attorney General Niki Sharma has condemned Islamophobia after the Fleetwood Islamic Centre in Surrey said its congregation found threatening graffiti and pieces of raw bacon at the facility.
Sharma said her heart went out to the Fleetwood Islamic Academy Society and the Muslim community after what she described as a hate incident and threats of violence. The society said worshippers arriving for prayer over the weekend found messages including “get out or die” and “Islam is trash” written on mosque walls.
It said raw bacon was hanging from a door handle and was also found near windows. The community is co-operating with police.
Surrey police said the RCMP are investigating a reported hate crime believed to have occurred between 11 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday. The society said the incident recalled pig matter being left outside a Quebec City mosque before the 2017 mass shooting.
