Delta School District used the summer break to carry out renewals, maintenance, infrastructure upgrades and site improvements while school buildings were largely unoccupied. Projects included roof replacements, accessibility upgrades, drainage repairs, library renovations, HVAC work and parking-lot improvements.

Peter Mcloughlin, director of facilities and planning, said the work required planning and coordination among district teams, contractors and suppliers. He said the projects are intended to support safe, welcoming, comfortable and well-equipped learning environments for students, staff and the wider school community.

At Cliff Drive Elementary, the district completed parking-lot and paving upgrades intended to improve safety and traffic flow, along with repairs to longstanding storm-drainage issues. A full roof replacement is expected to be completed in September. Roof renewals were also completed at Devon Gardens Elementary, Heath Elementary and Sunshine Hills Elementary.

Richardson Elementary reopened with a renovated library designed to improve accessibility, functionality and flexibility for learning and collaboration. The school also received parking-lot and paving improvements to support safer vehicle circulation, better parking organization and pedestrian access.

Renovations remain underway in the Life Skills space at Seaquam Secondary. Direct Digital Control system upgrades, which monitor and manage HVAC equipment, were completed at North Delta Secondary, South Delta Secondary, Gray Elementary and Neilson Grove Elementary. Work continues at Delta Secondary, Delview Secondary, Brooke Elementary and Port Guichon Elementary. The district says the upgrades will improve building-system reliability, performance and efficiency and strengthen remote equipment monitoring and management.

Sunshine Hills Elementary renewed two elevators through the Minor Capital Program, and a new playground is scheduled for completion in October. Sands Secondary is to receive new rooftop HVAC equipment this month. Grounds crews also cleared overgrown brush and selected trees at Heath Elementary, while Ladner Elementary received drainage upgrades and a rock circle and garden area for outdoor learning.

The district and the City of Delta are also partnering on a new playground component at Annieville Elementary, targeted for completion in October. Future work across the district is to include office renovations, gym HVAC renewals, theatre maintenance upgrades, electrical infrastructure renewals, exterior painting, and washroom and changeroom modernization.
