Japanese man walks across Canada for the joy of it
Nobuaki “Nobby” Okumura arrived in Vancouver after walking from Halifax for four and a half months, describing the journey as a pursuit of happiness.

Nobuaki “Nobby” Okumura arrived in Vancouver this week after walking from Halifax for four and a half months, completing his trek across Canada for what he calls happiness and fun.
Okumura said he is not trying to be Terry Fox; he simply likes walking. Canada is the fifth country he has crossed on foot because he wanted to do so.
In 2024, the Japanese walker set a Guinness World Record for the fastest walk across Japan. He said Canada’s natural surroundings suited him, with B.C. standing out in particular.
Okumura documented landscapes and wildlife during the journey and said support from people he met made it possible. He hopes his challenge encourages others to pursue their passions and prioritize their own happiness.
