‘Playing for Proz’ concert to honour longtime Surrey music educator
A Sept. 12 concert at Surrey Arts Centre will celebrate retired teacher Dr. David “Proz” Proznick and raise funds for a Semiahmoo Secondary scholarship.

Former students, family members and colleagues of retired music teacher Dr. David “Proz” Proznick will gather for the Playing for Proz concert at Surrey Arts Centre’s Main Stage on Sept. 12. The 7:30 p.m. event will celebrate the educator’s career and launch a scholarship in his name at Semiahmoo Secondary.
Organizer Mike Ardagh, a former Semiahmoo student and professional drummer, said generations of musicians shaped by Proznick’s teaching will perform. Proznick, who recently turned 82 and lives in South Surrey, is expected to attend as guest of honour with his musician children Jodi, Kelly and Tim.
Proznick began teaching in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, in the 1960s and moved to B.C. in 1974. His career included Newton Junior, Princess Margaret Secondary, White Rock Junior and Semiahmoo Secondary, as well as work with the Courtenay Youth Music Camp and music festivals across North America.
Concert proceeds will support the Dr. David Proznick Keystone Award for Semiahmoo music students who demonstrate leadership, work ethic and community dedication. Tickets are $50 for adults and $45 for seniors and students through playingforproz.com or by calling 604-501-5580.
