Delta to mark fall harvest and Halloween with Great Pumpkin Carve
The free community event will run Oct. 24 and 25 at Paterson Park in Ladner and McKitrick Park in North Delta. Carved pumpkins will light park walkways through Oct. 31.

Delta is inviting residents to a new community event, The Great Pumpkin Carve, to celebrate the fall harvest and get into the Halloween spirit. Pumpkin carving will take place Oct. 24 and 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Paterson Park in Ladner and McKitrick Park, near Sungod Recreation Centre in North Delta. Participants can bring a pumpkin or buy one at the event, and carving tools will be provided. Their creations will be added to illuminated walkways in both parks.
Mayor George V. Harvie said the harvest season is an especially important time for Delta farmers and that the city is excited to celebrate with the community. He described the event as a new way to recognize Delta’s farming community while bringing people together for Halloween.
Both events will include live music, fall-themed games for the whole family and a traditional end-of-harvest potato fry “chip-in,” with French fries made from potatoes grown by local Delta farmers. After the events, the carved pumpkins will remain on display through Oct. 31, turning McKitrick Park and Paterson Park into Great Pumpkin Glow Walks in the lead-up to Halloween.
Free registration for Delta residents opens Oct. 1 at 9 a.m. Registration reserves a place for a carved pumpkin along the illuminated walkway and enters participants in the carving contest. Voting will remain open until 9 a.m. on Oct. 31. Drop-ins are welcome, but display spots are limited.
