Goldbloom to step down as Hockey Canada board chair
Jonathan Goldbloom will leave Hockey Canada’s volunteer board-chair role Oct. 5, with an interim chair to serve until the organization’s Dec. 5 annual meeting.

Jonathan Goldbloom is stepping down as chair of the Hockey Canada board of directors, the national governing body announced Tuesday.
Goldbloom will not seek re-election when his term expires in December and will leave the volunteer role on Oct. 5. Hockey Canada says its board will appoint an interim chair until the organization’s annual meeting on Dec. 5.
The Montreal resident joined Hockey Canada in December 2022 as a member of its transition board of directors. That board was elected after former Supreme Court justice Thomas Cromwell reviewed the organization’s governance following the scandal involving allegations of sexual assault by members of the 2018 Canadian men’s junior hockey team.
Goldbloom was elected to a three-year term as chair in November 2023, succeeding Hugh L. Fraser. He said serving with his board colleagues for nearly four years had been a privilege and that he was grateful to have worked with people who became lifelong friends.
He said Hockey Canada had made substantial progress since the transition board was elected in 2022, and that its members, board and staff were positioned to lead Canada’s national winter sport to unprecedented success. Goldbloom said it was the appropriate time for a new chair to lead during the first year of the Olympic and Paralympic quadrennial, and that he looked forward this fall to becoming Team Canada’s No. 1 fan.
