Langley Animal Protection Society is asking the community to help name seven puppies while recognizing local school staff for the start of the school year.

LAPS received the puppies on Sept. 3 after a family was unable to find homes for them. The organization said they came from an accidental litter, an animal-welfare issue it sees too often.

Students and families can nominate a teacher, principal or school support worker from a Langley City or Township school in the comments on LAPS’s Facebook post. Nominations should include the staff member’s name, school and a short explanation of why they deserve recognition.

People can also like their favourite nominations. Voting closes Monday, Sept. 7, at noon. LAPS said it hopes the contest will recognize educators and school staff who make a difference for students.
