Man caught with gun stolen in Surrey burglary sentenced to three years
Jamie Dale Patrick Miller was stopped in Vancouver while riding an electric scooter on a sidewalk and found with a loaded restricted pistol.

Jamie Dale Patrick Miller, 44, has been sentenced to three years in prison for possessing a restricted pistol stolen in a Surrey burglary. The .22-calibre High Standard M-101 Duramatic long-rifle pistol contained six rounds of ammunition.
Police stopped Miller on Jan. 22, 2024, in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside after officers saw him narrowly miss pedestrians while riding an electric scooter quickly on a sidewalk. Provincial court Judge Robin McQuillan said officers stopped him for a bylaw infraction because they were concerned he could strike a pedestrian.
As police arrested Miller on outstanding warrants, he told an officer he had a loaded gun. It was concealed in a shoulder holster under his left arm. Police also seized a cellphone, $2,257.50 in cash and a pill bottle containing 55 Dilaudid pills.
Miller pleaded guilty to possessing a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm without a licence and possessing a loaded firearm while prohibited by an order. McQuillan imposed consecutive sentences of two years and one year. Miller receives six months’ credit for four months of pre-sentence custody and has 30 months left to serve.
