SkyTrain construction east of Highway 15 to bring overnight noise for about four weeks

People living along Fraser Highway east of Highway 15 in Cloverdale and Clayton can expect overnight construction noise for about the next month. The Clayton Clipper, a launching gantry, will install the concrete segments that form the SkyTrain line as it climbs toward Clayton Heights.

The B.C. Government’s Transportation Investment Corporation (TIC) says segment delivery and installation will take place on Fraser Highway east of Highway 15. Gantry operations and segment deliveries will happen overnight and on weekends to support the work. Regular project construction hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Saturday. During the phase when the Clayton Clipper hoists and installs the segments, however, work will also take place overnight, on Sundays and on statutory holidays. TIC anticipates a temporary increase in noise during this phase.

Traffic pattern changes will be in effect from Oct. 18 to mid-November. While the gantry is working overhead, access to roads, intersections, sidewalks and driveways may change temporarily. Noise mitigation measures include shutting off equipment when it is not in use, communicating by radio wherever possible and turning down operational alarms. Lighting will be directed toward work areas. There will be no access under the gantry while it is operating.

Drivers, cyclists and transit users may face intermittent traffic stops of up to two minutes while pieces are lifted into place. TIC advises transit riders to check TransLink and TransLink.ca for the latest bus service information in the area. The changes support construction of the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain.
