Vancouver woman aims for one million steps to support cancer research
Vancouver artist Tarrin McDonough is walking about 32,000 steps a day in August, aiming to raise $5,000 for BC Cancer cancer research.

Vancouver artist Tarrin McDonough is taking on a one-million-step walking challenge this August to raise money for cancer research through BC Cancer. The target requires her to walk roughly 32,000 steps a day, with a fundraising goal of $5,000.
More than halfway through the month, McDonough had raised over $3,000. She said the challenge was prompted by the broad impact of cancer after realizing that six of eight women she was sitting with were cancer survivors.
McDonough and her sister, Sorrel, are known as the Styrogirls for their collection of Styrofoam creations inspired by pop culture figures, including Taylor Swift, Gimli and Deadpool. They say the art has helped add colour to Vancouver and connect them with fellow residents.
The sisters plan to complete the final walk of the month in a Styrofoam costume. They say the event is intended as a tribute to families affected by cancer and a way to give each step added meaning.
