Richmond Board of Education welcomes students, staff and families back to school
As the new school year begins, the Richmond Board of Education welcomed the district community and urged drivers to use extra caution around schools, including a new City Centre elementary school.

The Richmond Board of Education is welcoming students, staff and families back as the new school year begins across Richmond School District.
The board said it hopes the year brings students opportunities to learn, grow and connect with others. It thanked staff for their care and commitment to supporting students, and parents and caregivers for their continued partnership as another school year starts.
September also marks the opening of a new elementary school in Richmond’s City Centre. The school will serve the growing community and welcome students and families for the first time.
The board said roads and neighbourhoods near schools will become busier as students return. It asked drivers to slow down, obey posted signs and watch for children walking, cycling or travelling to and from school. Drivers were asked to take extra care near the new City Centre school while families become familiar with the area.
Students across the district will continue to learn, develop and take on new challenges, supported by encouragement, guidance and partnership throughout the community, the board said. It thanked the community for helping make the return to school safe and positive.
The message was issued by board chairperson Ken Hamaguchi on behalf of the Richmond Board of Education.
