Surrey city council candidate Ian de Hoog sets out three priorities for stronger neighbourhoods
The artist, instructor, software developer and Surrey resident is running with NewSurrey+, focusing on safer, cleaner and better-connected neighbourhoods, sustainable growth, and local arts and culture.

Ian de Hoog is an artist, instructor, software developer and Surrey resident running for city council with NewSurrey+. He says he wants to help build stronger, safer and more connected neighbourhoods.
His three priorities are making neighbourhoods safer, cleaner and more connected; managing growth responsibly so infrastructure and services remain sustainable; and creating vibrant public spaces while supporting local arts and culture.
On neighbourhood safety, cleanliness and connectivity, de Hoog said he would focus on practical improvements residents experience every day. These include better-maintained streets and public spaces, traffic calming where needed, safer routes to schools, and stronger connections for walking, cycling and transit. He said he would listen to residents about local priorities, use evidence to guide decisions and ensure neighbourhood improvements keep pace with growth rather than leaving residents to catch up.
De Hoog said he listens, seeks to understand issues and acts thoughtfully. He said he would bring practical, evidence-based decision-making and a strong focus on Surrey’s neighbourhoods.
