VPD notifies IIO after fatal collision in downtown Vancouver
A driver died after a vehicle collision less than a block from where VPD officers had tried to speak with him during a fraud investigation. The IIO has taken over the investigation.
The Vancouver Police Department says it notified the IIO after a fatal collision in downtown Vancouver this afternoon.
At about 3 p.m., VPD officers on foot were investigating a fraud in the 1000 block of Canada Place and attempted to speak with a male suspect in a vehicle. He drove away, police said.
Less than a block away, the vehicle was involved in a collision and the driver died. No one else was injured. The IIO has assumed conduct of the investigation, and further information requests can be directed to the IIO.
