Building activity slows in Langley Township
Langley Township issued fewer permits and saw lower construction values through July than at the same point in 2025, with single-family and secondary-suite permits at a five-year low.

Construction activity in Langley Township has slowed from a year earlier, according to the municipality’s development and permit data.
By the end of July, the Township had issued 1,295 building permits, down from 1,531 at the same point in 2025. Permit fees fell to $4.57 million from $6.12 million, while the total construction value of permitted projects dropped to $471,021,420 from $740,282,117.
Permits for single-family homes and secondary suites reached a five-year low, with 189 issued so far this year. Multi-family construction remained above the five-year average, though permits for 1,168 units were below the levels recorded in 2024 and 2025.
The Township had permitted 1,357 new homes by the end of July: 1,168 multi-family units, 103 single-family homes, 81 secondary suites and five mobile-home units. That compares with 1,941 housing units by July 31 last year.
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. has reported a national decline in home construction during the first half of the year, citing uncertainty, higher development costs, weaker demand and more unsold homes.
