Superintendent welcomes Richmond students back to school
Richmond School District students and staff return to classrooms Sept. 8, while the district opens the new City Centre Elementary School on Odlin Road.

Richmond School District superintendent Christopher Usih has welcomed new and returning students and families ahead of the new school year. Students and staff across the district will return to classrooms on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The district will also welcome students and families to the new City Centre Elementary School on Odlin Road. Usih said the opening is a special moment for the City Centre community and the district.
Richmond School District is launching its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan this school year. The plan was shaped by input from students, staff, families and community members, and is intended to guide schools in supporting student learning, well-being, equity and continuous improvement.
Usih said the district wants every student to feel welcome, safe, connected, supported and inspired to do their best. He encouraged families to support learning through regular attendance, reading and talking together, consistent homework and rest routines, discussions about schoolwork, and ongoing contact with teachers and school staff.
Families with questions or concerns can contact their child’s school, Usih said.
