Burnaby RCMP issues 57 tickets in e-scooter and e-bike enforcement
Burnaby RCMP issued 57 violation tickets in a targeted e-scooter and e-bike campaign, while urging riders and parents to follow safety rules.

Burnaby RCMP issued 57 violation tickets during a targeted enforcement campaign focused on e-scooters and e-bikes. One 15-year-old received three infractions for being underage, riding on a sidewalk and not wearing a helmet; police called the teen’s mother, who took the scooter home.
Cpl. Mike Kalanj said e-scooter riders must be at least 16, wear a helmet, stay below 25 km/h, avoid earbuds and not carry a second rider. He said the issue extends across the Lower Mainland and that education alone is not changing behaviour.
Amir Sadrarhami, manager of Vancouver repair shop ProMechBC, said poor brake and tire maintenance can create preventable hazards. He said e-scooters can be useful transportation, but riders need to understand the rules and risks.
With school starting soon, Kalanj urged parents to think carefully before purchasing the machines for young children. He said e-scooters cannot be ridden on school property.
