Port Coquitlam Car Free Day set for Aug. 29
Downtown Port Coquitlam’s Car Free Day will expand onto part of Shaughnessy Street on Aug. 29, bringing road closures, entertainment and family activities.

Port Coquitlam’s fourth annual Car Free Day, presented by TransLink, will take over McAllister Avenue in the downtown core on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 1 to 8 p.m. This year’s event will also extend onto part of Shaughnessy Street.
The festival will include live performances on a main stage on McAllister Avenue and a family stage in Leigh Square, along with food trucks, vendors, a beverage garden, community displays, a market, games and arts and crafts. Fountain shows at Leigh Square are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Road closures will affect Shaughnessy Street between McAllister Avenue and Leigh Square Place, McAllister Avenue between Shaughnessy Street and Mary Hill Road, and Donald Street between McAllister Avenue and Wilson Avenue. Detours will be in place, and the city is advising drivers to plan for delays in the downtown area.
Visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle or use transit. A free bike valet will operate in the small parking lot at McAllister Avenue and Donald Avenue. More information and activity schedules are available at portcoquitlam.ca/carfreeday.
