Surrey council candidate William Li pledges to keep tax increases at or below inflation
The Imagine Surrey candidate says he would protect city services, publish the budget math before each vote and make streets safer while improving commutes for working families.

William Li is running for Surrey city council with Imagine Surrey. He is a Sullivan-area father, an SFU business graduate and an international trade executive who serves as director of community service at the Rotary Club of Surrey. His three priorities are to keep property tax increases at or below inflation without cutting services, spend where it matters and account for every dollar, and improve street safety and commute times for working families.
Li chose property taxes as the priority he would expand on. He said property taxes rose about 27 per cent across four budgets, while residents were not receiving 27 per cent more. Drawing on a career in finance and trade, he said he would plan long term, negotiate hard and account for every dollar in the city budget. Imagine Surrey would hold tax increases at or below inflation for four years, with no service cuts, and publish the calculations before every vote. If inflation is lower, the increase would be lower as well.
Li said he came to Canada at age seven, when a family could still afford a home. He is running so the next generation in Surrey has that opportunity.
