B.C. spent $101,000 in July to house sole tenant at Vancouver SRO
The province has no timeline to close the Luugat on Granville Street, where Ryan Donnelly remains the last resident, according to the Ministry of Housing.

B.C.’s Ministry of Housing says it spent $101,000 in July to house the sole remaining tenant at the Luugat, a former Granville Street hotel the provincial government had promised to close.
Ryan Donnelly, who was still living there in mid-July, remains the building’s last resident. The province has not set a timeline for shuttering the site.
Vancouver Coun. Sarah Kirby-Yung criticized the cost, saying a person could be housed at market rent for more than four years for the amount spent on one month at the building. Housing Minister Christine Boyle was not available for an interview.
Donnelly told Global News last month that he has a seizure disorder and needs a large room. The report noted that a monthly stay in the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, including executive-lounge breakfast and evening snacks, would cost about $70,000.
