BC NDP says all four of its Surrey-area MLAs will seek re-election in the Oct. 24 snap provincial election: Garry Begg in Surrey-Guildford, Jagrup Brar in Surrey-Fleetwood, Amna Shah in Surrey-City Centre and Jessie Sunner in Surrey-Newton. Begg and Brar are veteran Surrey politicians, while Shah and Sunner first ran in the 2024 B.C. election.

In a news release sent Thursday, Sept. 24, Begg said BC NDP has a plan to tackle crime, improve health care and address transportation needs in Surrey and the region south of the Fraser River.

Brar, who served as minister of mining and critical minerals, said B.C. must create good jobs and develop new markets beyond the United States amid tariff wars.

Shah said B.C. cannot afford Conservative cuts, higher costs or “their chaos.” Citing her work on affordable housing and time with the Surrey Food Bank, she said people need support and opportunities to get ahead.

Sunner said Surrey-Newton residents are feeling pressure from rising costs. She said her career advocating for workers and ensuring people have a voice matters now more than ever, and that she is running again to continue fighting for working people, protect what the community has built and help secure its future.
