East Vancouver’s Britannia Pool closed until further notice

Britannia Pool in East Vancouver closed Saturday and is expected to remain closed until further notice after an unexpected failure of the pool basin tiles made it unsafe.

The community centre said on its website that the extent of the damage and the timeline for repairs have not yet been determined. It apologized for the inconvenience and thanked users for their understanding while necessary maintenance is completed.

Last month, a swim club said its members were blindsided after being told the pool would close from November 2026 to September 2027 for repairs and maintenance. The City of Vancouver later said that planned closure would be delayed until January 2027.
