Popular Elmo teether recalled in Canada over choking risk
Health Canada has recalled more than 20,000 Skip Hop Baby Sesame Street Elmo Silicone Teethers after a detachable eye-pupil piece was identified as a choking hazard.

Health Canada, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Skip Hop Inc. have issued a joint recall for more than 20,000 Elmo-shaped teething toys because of a potential choking hazard.
The recalled Skip Hop Baby Sesame Street Elmo Silicone Teether was sold in Canada between January 2025 and March 2026 through Carter’s OshKosh and various online retailers. The toy is intended for babies aged three months and older.
According to the recall notice, the black pupil portion of Elmo’s eyes can detach if the toy is frozen, creating a potential choking hazard. Consumers are instructed to stop using the product immediately and contact Skip Hop Inc. for disposal instructions and a gift-card refund.
As of Sept. 3, 2026, the company had received three incident reports in Canada and one in the United States. No injuries were reported in either country. Consumers can contact Skip Hop Inc. at 1-800-692-4674, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST, or visit its website for more information.
