Richmond opens 34th annual Street Banner Contest
Original artwork is being accepted until Sept. 27, 2026; 10 winning designs will be displayed on 1,000 banners across Richmond in 2027.

The City of Richmond is accepting original artwork for its 34th annual Street Banner Contest, inviting local artists, designers and creatives of all ages and abilities to reflect the city’s creativity, character and diverse experiences.
Entries may include photography, graphic design, watercolour, oil painting or collage. Artwork must depict Richmond through one of 10 themes: Nightscape, Harvest, Coastal City, Discover, Play, Wildlife, Celebrate: The Arts, Heritage and Cultural Fusion.
A panel of five local artists and City staff will select 20 eligible designs for online community voting. Richmond residents will choose 10 winners, whose designs will appear on 1,000 street banners throughout the city.
Submissions close at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026. Winners will be announced at a City Council meeting in spring 2027 and will each receive a $300 honorarium and a full-sized banner. Rules and submission details are available at LetsTalkRichmond.ca/StreetBanners2027.
The contest is part of the broader Partners for Beautification program, which encourages community participation in initiatives for Richmond park spaces. More information is available at richmond.ca/beautification.
