Vancouver police seek witnesses after man seriously hurt in alleged random assault

Vancouver police are seeking witnesses after a man was seriously injured in what investigators describe as a random assault near Nelson and Richards streets.

A couple was walking back to its hotel after a concert at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday when a stranger approached from behind and punched the man in the face, police said. He fell, struck his head on the pavement and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect fled toward Granville Street. Police describe him as a white man aged 20 to 35, about five-foot-five to five-foot-eight, with a medium build and fingerless gloves. Anyone with information or video is asked to contact Vancouver Police.
