Significant police presence planned for Langley Good Times Cruise-In weekend
Langley RCMP say dangerous driving, including burnouts and stunting, will not be tolerated during the Sept. 12 charity car show in downtown Aldergrove.

Langley RCMP say a significant police presence will be in place throughout the weekend for the Langley Good Times Cruise-In. Sgt. Zynal Sharoom said he could not provide specific deployment numbers, but officers will attend the event as part of community outreach and will be available to engage with attendees and car enthusiasts while vehicles are displayed.
Sharoom said unsanctioned street burnouts and stunting are strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated by RCMP or event organizers, whether at the show or elsewhere in town during Cruise-In weekend. Those involved can expect significant penalties, including fines and possible vehicle impoundment. Organizers said registered participants caught performing burnouts or stunts could also be barred from future Cruise-In events.
RCMP auxiliary volunteers will return this year for the first time since the former volunteer officer program was shut down several years ago. The first Langley group graduated in April. Following a 2016 national review, RCMP auxiliary constables moved from armed, active-patrol roles to unarmed community-engagement and administrative-support roles. A tiered system introduced in 2018 was put on hold while provinces and territories reviewed the appropriate service tier.
Tier 1 volunteers do not wear a full uniform and receive grey golf shirts marked “auxiliary,” navy-blue slacks, high-visibility jackets and hats. They support community policing, safety education and non-enforcement duties such as searches for missing people. Tier 2 volunteers may also conduct bicycle patrols and traffic control. Tier 3 volunteers, the highest level, may conduct vehicle patrols and check stops under limited conditions and use some force tools.
The charity car show will run Saturday, Sept. 12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Aldergrove. The main drag will be closed, and an estimated 1,500 classic, custom and vintage vehicles are expected to be on display. More information and pre-registration are available through Langley Good Times Cruise-In.
