Surrey Eagles open season with one win in seven games
The BCHL junior team has a 1-6 record and sits fifth and last in the Coastal East conference, with much of the season still to play. Surrey Eagles beat the Chilliwack Chiefs 4-2 at home on Sept. 20.

Surrey Eagles have opened their season with one big win and a few losses. The British Columbia Hockey League junior team welcomed new head coach and general manager David Rutherford before the start of the 2026-27 season. It has played seven games and has a 1-6 record, including a 4-2 win over the Chilliwack Chiefs at South Surrey Arena on Sept. 20.
The Eagles now sit fifth and last in the BCHL’s Coastal East conference, with plenty of hockey still to come. In mid-September, Rutherford said he was proud of the team and that it was getting better every day, which was the goal. He said they did not need to be the best in September; he wanted them to be at their best by March, so they had to keep building day by day. Rutherford added that he had been “super impressed” with the Eagles so far.
The Eagles are scheduled to face the Chiefs again on Friday, Oct. 9, in South Surrey, with a 7 p.m. puck drop. Tickets and information are available at surreyeagles.net.
