Whitecaps acquire Canadian midfielder Emrick Fotsing from Vancouver FC
The 18-year-old will recover from a hip injury before returning to Vancouver FC on loan for the rest of the CPL season, then joining the Whitecaps for 2027.

The Vancouver Whitecaps have acquired 18-year-old Canadian midfielder Emrick Fotsing from Vancouver FC. The CF Montréal academy product signed through the 2029-30 campaign, with a club option for the following season.
Fotsing injured his hip while with Canada’s under-20 team earlier this month. He will rehabilitate with the Whitecaps, then return to Vancouver FC on loan for the remainder of the Canadian Premier League season before joining Vancouver ahead of MLS’s condensed 2027 sprint season.
The Mascouche, Que., native joined Vancouver FC in February 2025 and has made 39 appearances, scoring four goals. He helped Canada qualify for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup at this month’s CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Mexico.
The transfer fee was not disclosed. The CPL said the deal is Vancouver FC’s largest sale and the league’s second largest, behind Kwasi Poku’s 2024 move from Forge FC to Belgium’s RWD Molenbeek. Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster said Fotsing has demonstrated the technical ability, intelligence and character to develop at a high level.
