Surrey Now-Leader seeks nominations for 24th Community Leader Awards
Nominations are open for the Surrey Now-Leader’s 24th annual Community Leader Awards, which recognize contributions in nine categories, from environmental leadership and coaching to youth volunteering and community building. The deadline is Oct. 18.

Do you know someone in Surrey who makes a positive contribution without seeking recognition? The Surrey Now-Leader is accepting nominations for its 24th annual Community Leader Awards. Nominations close Oct. 18. A person may be nominated in only one category.
The nine categories are Environmental Leader, for people who champion environmentally friendly initiatives and encourage sound environmental practices; Coach, for those who contribute positively to their sport and build participants’ skills and confidence; Teacher of the Year, for teachers who set strong ethical and professional examples and motivate, communicate with and support students and the community; and Leader of the Year, for people who show long-term leadership, contribute positively to the community and serve as role models. The Above and Beyond award recognizes people who go beyond their job requirements to support the community. The Emergency Services award recognizes those who go the extra mile in emergency services, shoulder significant responsibility and accept the potential risks and challenges of the work.
The Volunteer of the Year award recognizes people who give their time to a variety of causes. The Youth Volunteer of the Year award is for nominees aged 25 or younger who contribute to the community through volunteer work. The Community Builder award recognizes people who take the initiative to engage a range of Surrey residents in an innovative or new community project or event. Such an initiative may help different groups work together, address a gap in community participation, or make the community more inclusive and engaged.
Nominators should provide a 250-word write-up. It can include how long the nominee has been part of the community, specific examples of their work or contributions, community associations and memberships, and references from others who can offer further support.
