Temperatures are forecast to fall across Metro Vancouver during the first full week of October. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecasts a high of 16°C on Monday, Oct. 5, and up to 20°C inland. Temperatures are expected to dip as the week progresses, with a chance of showers. Overnight temperatures could fall to 9°C on Friday and 6°C on Saturday. ECCC meteorologist Chloe Katsademas said the 6°C reading, if it occurs, would be the coolest in recent memory. Overnight lows of 8.5°C were recorded on Sept. 26 and 27, and October’s monthly overnight climate mean is 8.6°C.

Katsademas said a weak ridge could bring some fog to Metro Vancouver early in the week. There has also been considerable fog in the Strait of Georgia over the past two days, and the current pattern suggests it could persist for the next couple of days. Fog and low stratus clouds could increase, with possible drizzle, and the pattern is expected to last until Thursday.

ECCC forecasts periods of drizzle from Monday evening into Tuesday morning. Showers could return just before the long weekend. Katsademas said the pattern is expected to shift to a more upper-level trough on Thursday. A possible storm is expected to affect the northern B.C. coast more, but it will change the flow around Vancouver, where troughing could bring a chance of showers.
