Surrey commits $7.9M to three new parks, including two in Newton
Acorn Park, Abbey Ridge Park and Woodward Hill Neighbourhood Park will add accessible green space, play areas, trails and other amenities through 2027.

A groundbreaking at Acorn Park in Newton marks the start of three new Surrey parks with a combined value of $7.9 million. The projects are Acorn Park at 58A Avenue and 142 Street, Abbey Ridge Park in East Fraser Heights and Woodward Hill Neighbourhood Park in South Newton. The city says the projects will create accessible outdoor spaces for residents to relax, play, gather and enjoy nature closer to home.
Acorn Park will be a 3.9-acre, or 1.6-hectare, neighbourhood space costing $2.5 million. It will be delivered in two phases, with open space, multi-use paths and a pilot off-leash dog area due by the end of 2026. A playground, multi-sport court and gathering areas are scheduled to follow in 2027.
The $2.6-million Abbey Ridge Park will cover 5.2 acres, or 2.1 hectares. Planned amenities include a playground, fitness area, half basketball court, off-leash dog area, walking trails and gathering areas. Construction is expected to begin this fall, with the first phase open by year-end and remaining amenities available in 2027.
Woodward Hill Neighbourhood Park, beside an elementary school in South Newton, will cover 4.7 acres, or 1.9 hectares. The $2.8-million project is expected to start later this fall and open by fall 2027. It will include a basketball court, nature-inspired playground, outdoor fitness equipment, accessible paths and shared seating and picnic areas. The plan preserves many mature trees, providing shade and an established feel when the park opens.
