Several White Rock residents displaced after Wednesday evening structure fire
A fire at a three-storey mixed-use building in White Rock displaced several residents and sent one person to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Several White Rock residents were displaced after a structure fire Wednesday evening at George Street and Thrift Avenue. White Rock Fire Rescue crews began fighting the blaze at about 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 at a three-storey building on the northeast corner of the intersection, with commercial space on the first floor and two residential storeys above.
Fire Chief Brad Davie said firefighters found a fire that had started in a first-floor unit and spread upward. The gas meter was also on fire. The cause remains under investigation, though Davie said the fire likely began outside at the gas meter.
Davie said officials hoped displaced residents could return to the building before the night ended. One person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Conservative Surrey—White Rock candidate Trevor Halford, who was at the scene after noticing smoke while going for coffee, praised first responders for containing the fire.
