Surrey council candidate Gagan Nahal makes public safety and accountability priorities
The Surrey First candidate and criminal defence lawyer lists completing the Surrey Police Service transition, hiring an independent auditor general and ending automatic tax increases through budget review among his priorities.

Gagan Nahal is running for Surrey city council with Surrey First. A criminal defence lawyer, he received the King Charles III Coronation Medal for community service. His campaign priorities include public safety and government accountability. His top three priorities are finishing the transition to Surrey Police Service, hiring an independent auditor general for City Hall, and stopping automatic tax increases through a genuine budget review.
Nahal said his work as a criminal defence lawyer has taught him how the justice and policing systems work and where they fall short. He said public safety also depends on accountable government, and he would push to hire an independent auditor general to review every city program and every dollar spent. With Surrey’s budget approaching $2 billion, he said taxpayers deserve real oversight instead of automatic tax increases, and he would ensure City Hall delivers it.
Asked why voters should choose him, Nahal said his legal experience has taught him how to hold institutions accountable, and he would bring that discipline to City Hall.
