New Westminster woman finds man climbing into her home, police say
New Westminster police say a woman was home alone when she heard someone at her door and window, then found a man climbing through a bedroom window. He fled after she screamed. Investigators are reviewing CCTV and evidence and are asking witnesses to call police.

New Westminster police say a suspect fled after trying to break into a home late last month. Officers were called to the 400 block of Ginger Drive at about 1 p.m. on Sept. 28.
The resident was home alone when she heard knocking at the front door and a window. She was not expecting anyone and did not answer, police said in a statement Wednesday. A short time later, she heard what sounded like a window screen being cut in a bedroom.
Police say the woman went into the room and saw a man climbing through the window. She screamed, and he ran away. Sgt. Andrew Leaver said the resident’s quick reaction likely changed the outcome: by making noise and moving to a safe location, she drew attention to what was happening and caused the man to flee.
Investigators are continuing to review CCTV footage and evidence from the scene. Police are asking anyone who saw the man in the area or has information to contact investigators at 604-525-5411.
