Former legislative reporter Richard Zussman will run for the BC NDP in Saanich South
Former Global News legislative reporter Richard Zussman says he will seek election as the BC NDP candidate in Saanich South.

Former Global News legislative reporter Richard Zussman has announced he will run for the BC NDP in the upcoming election in Saanich South. An award-winning journalist, he spent more than a decade covering British Columbia, including COVID-19, wildfires and elections.
In a release, Zussman said people are facing difficult circumstances and that Donald Trump’s trade war is making them harder, threatening B.C. jobs and putting pressure on families and businesses. He said he joined the BC NDP after a career interviewing leaders from all parties because he believes the party will support workers and businesses, open markets beyond the United States, lower costs and strengthen health care.
Zussman co-authored A Matter of Confidence: The Inside Story of the Political Battle for BC. Before joining Global, he was CBC BC’s provincial affairs reporter and was a frequent contributor to CKNW Radio talk shows. He announced his departure from Global BC in November 2025, saying he wanted to try something new.
BC NDP Leader David Eby said Zussman is committed to his community and brings substantial knowledge and experience to the party’s team. Eby said Zussman joins a growing group of candidates who will promote the party’s plan to free the economy from U.S. control and lower costs for British Columbians. Several BC NDP MLAs, including ministers Ravi Kahlon, Kelly Greene, Brenda Bailey and Lana Popham, have said they will not seek re-election.
