Vancouver police are working with Dutch police and Interpol to determine whether a hospitalized man in Amsterdam may be a Vancouver man who has been missing since 1993.

Amsterdam police have spent the past three years trying to identify the man, known only as “Lucky.” Police there say a medical condition has left him unable to communicate, and they released a video appeal this week seeking public help.

The appeal prompted suggestions that he resembles John Russell Kenny, who was last seen by his family in Vancouver in 1993. Vancouver Police Department records describe Kenny as transient in nature.

The VPD’s Missing Persons Unit says it is actively collaborating with the Dutch police and Interpol to determine whether the two men are the same person. Police say the investigation remains ongoing and an update will be issued if there is a positive identification.
