Mom’s the Word Collective brings its holiday comedy Talkin’ Turkey to Surrey starting Oct. 14
The Arts Club Theatre Company touring production runs at Surrey Arts Centre through Oct. 24, with special programming including a children’s art class, an actor talkback and VocalEye audio description.

Talkin’ Turkey, a holiday comedy for mothers and the people who support and laugh with them, runs at Surrey Arts Centre from Oct. 14 to 24. The production features Mom’s the Word Collective, five women at the centre of a theatrical movement launched in 1993. This fall, they turn the “season of thanksgiving” into the “season of forgiving.”
The Arts Club Theatre Company touring production stars Jill Daum as Jill, Erla Faye Forsyth as standby, Alison Kelly as Alison, Barbara Pollard as Barbara, Colleen Winton as Robin and Deborah Williams as Deb. Mom’s the Word: Talkin’ Turkey debuted on Granville Island in October 2022. Daum, Kelly, Pollard, Williams and Robin Nichol created the holiday comedy.
Warm, irreverent and relatable, the show takes on family traditions, food obsessions, body image, aging parents, teenagers and the daily effort of keeping everything together. Arts Club artistic director Ashlie Corcoran said the women of Mom’s the Word Collective have spent the past 30 years sharing, with humour and candour, what it is like to raise young children, live with teenagers and become empty-nesters. She said the performers now offer their holiday truths with their trademark wit, joy and irreverence, and that the company is pleased to remount the production for new audiences as a distinctly Canadian work.
Tickets for the Surrey performances are available at purchase.surrey.ca or by calling 604-501-5580. Special events include a Paint at the Play performance on Oct. 17, when children aged six to 11 can take a free art class while adults attend a matinee; a post-show conversation with the actors on Oct. 22; and a Saturday matinee with VocalEye audio description for blind and partially sighted patrons on Oct. 24. Other tour dates, show details and a downloadable digital programme are available at artsclub.com.
