Ahead of students and staff returning to classrooms this fall, Langley School District’s Facilities and Maintenance teams worked throughout the summer on improvement projects across the district. The work ranged from major infrastructure upgrades to projects that beautify school grounds and create new opportunities to play and learn, helping prepare healthy, safe and positive learning environments.

This summer’s projects included exterior painting at D.W. Poppy Secondary; a roof replacement and new basketball court at Parkside Centennial Elementary; a bathroom facelift at Langley Meadows Community School; a new playground at Simonds Elementary; two new Gaga Ball pits at Peter Ewart Elementary; and a courtyard renovation at Brookswood Secondary. The courtyard work will transform the school’s outdoor gathering space into a more welcoming place. Together, the projects reflect the district’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving learning spaces that support student success and well-being.

Sunny Saggu, assistant director of Facilities and Transportation, said the teams were proud to turn goals into meaningful improvements for district students. This summer’s projects improved accessibility, added opportunities for students to play and learn, and beautified schools.

The work aligns with the Langley School District Strategic Plan and the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning (FESL), which emphasize inclusive, supportive learning environments where all students can thrive. Facilities and Maintenance staff continue to work with school-based teams and Learning Support Services staff to ensure school spaces meet the diverse needs of learners, including priority learners identified within the FESL.

Saggu also said Facilities and Maintenance teams, custodial staff and others work behind the scenes to get schools ready for students. The district is grateful for the care and skill they bring to the work, saying their efforts make a real difference in creating safe, inclusive spaces for all learners.

Alongside the summer school improvements, work continued on two major capital projects: construction of Emery Dosdall Secondary and stɑtl̓əw̓ Middle School in Willoughby. The article says photos of some summer improvement projects appear below.
