Design is complete for Coquitlam’s Burke Mountain community centre and Burke Village Park
The project is moving toward construction after design was completed. Early site work began in February, and the project officially broke ground in May 2026; full building construction is expected to start later this year.

Design is now 100 per cent complete for Coquitlam’s future Burke Mountain Community Centre and Burke Village Park, marking another milestone as the project moves toward construction. The schematic and detailed design phases were completed last year. Early site work began in February, and the project officially broke ground in May 2026. Since then, the project team has been preparing the construction documents, including the detailed plans and specifications contractors will use to build the project. The final design brings the community centre and park together as one connected destination, with swimming, fitness, library services, community programs and outdoor park space in a setting that complements the natural landscape.
In early September, the Government of Canada announced a major investment in the project through the Build Communities Strong Fund. Crews have installed erosion and sediment control measures and a water treatment system to help protect nearby waterways and manage stormwater. Excavation is under way, and nearby residents may notice increased construction activity. Full building construction is expected to begin later this year.
The City is planning public art and is working with kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation to develop cultural recognitions for the facility. Images of the final design and project details are available at coquitlam.ca/BMCC. The City will continue sharing construction updates, including key milestones and progress.
