Out and about: scarecrows take over Steveston
The Steveston Scarecrow Crawl returns to downtown Steveston for October, with Halloween characters displayed in front of and sometimes inside local businesses. The displays are expected to grow through the month, and visitors can also stop at the village’s shops, cafés, museums and restaurants.

Scarecrows come in many shapes and sizes, especially in the month before Halloween. The Steveston Scarecrow Crawl is back this year in downtown Steveston, sponsored by the Steveston Merchants Association. Individual businesses can also choose to join in the Halloween spirit.
The Crawl runs throughout October and features a range of Halloween-themed characters. Displays are set up in front of local businesses and sometimes inside them. One notable character is a historic mail carrier standing in front of the Steveston Museum and post office at 3811 Moncton Street. The postman represents the village’s mail service dating back to 1890. The post office remains one of the best ways to send mail.
The event offers a chance to see the displays while walking the village streets and visiting bakeries, cafés, ice cream shops, museums, restaurants, and a wide selection of other shops and services. The number of displays tends to increase through October, so visitors may want to check back in a week or so to see the latest installations.
