OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney has appointed senior public servant Scott Jones as the next head of the Communications Security Establishment, Canada’s cyberspy agency.
Jones, most recently president of Shared Services Canada, will replace the retiring Caroline Xavier. The CSE gathers foreign intelligence online using advanced technology and works to protect Canada from cyberthreats.
Jones led the CSE’s Canadian Centre for Cyber Security from 2018 to 2021 and held several roles at the agency between 2008 and 2018. In a media statement, Carney thanked Xavier for her dedication and service to Canadians.
