B.C. attorney general condemns threats and vandalism at Surrey mosque
Police are investigating after threatening graffiti and raw bacon were found at Surrey's Fleetwood Islamic Centre over the weekend.

B.C.'s attorney general is condemning Islamophobia after threatening graffiti and pieces of raw bacon were found at Surrey's Fleetwood Islamic Centre over the weekend.
The Fleetwood Islamic Academy Society said people arriving for morning prayers found messages including threats of violence and anti-Islamic insults written on the mosque walls. It said raw bacon had been hung from a door handle and left near windows.
Attorney General Niki Sharma said her thoughts were with the society and the Muslim community following what she described as a hate incident and threats of violence.
Surrey police said the RCMP are investigating a reported hate crime believed to have occurred between 11 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday. The society said it is co-operating with investigators.
The organization said the incident recalls the placement of pig matter outside a Quebec City mosque before the 2017 mass shooting there.
