British Columbians planning a local getaway this fall have several world-class resorts to choose from. The 33rd annual World Travel Awards recently announced its Canadian winners, including three properties in B.C. The recognized resorts offer options ranging from luxury stays to opportunities to experience nature.

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler was named Canada’s leading resort for the fourth consecutive year. The luxury mountain retreat is in the heart of the resort municipality, with high-end amenities, service and scenic surroundings near Whistler’s well-known slopes. Its Whistler Spa was also recently named Canada’s best resort spa at the 12th annual World Spa Awards.

Klahoose Wilderness Resort won the award for Canada’s leading wilderness resort. The small, all-inclusive retreat in Desolation Sound opened in 2021 and is owned by the Klahoose First Nation. It offers four lodge rooms and three private oceanfront cedar cabins. Guests can stay there to see whales, grizzlies and other wildlife in their natural habitat.

Kingfisher Pacific Resort & Spa was named Canada’s leading boutique resort this year. Near Courtenay and Comox, it is about a four-hour trip from Vancouver by car and ferry. The resort offers overnight stays and day-spa visits. Its award-winning Pacific Mist Spa & Hydropath features a cave sculpted from sandstone. The website describes the route through it as “an immersive journey through six distinct environments.”

The World Travel Awards were launched in 1993 to recognize and celebrate excellence across major sectors of travel, tourism and hospitality around the world. Vancouver and B.C. received recognition in several other categories. YVR was named North America’s leading airport, ahead of competitors across Canada and the United States. Vancouver was named North America’s Leading City Break Destination, and the Port of Vancouver won North America’s Leading Cruise Port. The full list of North American winners is available on the World Travel Awards website.
